Set against the backdrop of 1930s Marseilles, this narrative follows two minor hoodlums who forge an alliance after a heated confrontation over a woman. Initially, the duo focuses on manipulating horse races and boxing outcomes to earn quick money. Their ambitions grow as they begin executing tasks for established criminal kingpins. However, the dynamic shifts significantly once they resolve to launch an independent operation.
